A neuropsychological evaluation is like a check-up for your brain. Just like a doctor checks your body to see how healthy you are, a neuropsychologist checks your brain to see how well it's working. They use tests and ask questions to see how you remember, pay attention, solve problems, and understand things. It helps them understand your brain and figure out the best ways to help you if you're having any difficulties. It's kind of like taking your brain to the doctor to make sure it's doing its best.
First, Dr. Duncanson will schedule an initial intake appointment with you. This will last 1-2 hours. She will ask questions about your symptoms or areas of concern, medical history, and background. This appointment can be done virtually.
Next, a testing appointment will be scheduled. This requires an in person visit to the testing office. You or your child will work one-on-one with Dr. Duncanson. A series of paper and pencil tests as well as computerized tests will be administered. This appointment can last 3-6 hours.
Finally, a feedback appointment will be scheduled. During this appointment, results of your testing and recommendations for next steps will be discussed. This appointment can last 1-2 hours and can be done virtually.
